Ukraine Humanitarian Aid & Support

Door of Hope International provides Ukraine humanitarian aid, delivering food, fuel, and practical support to families affected by the war. For this purpose, through partnerships with local pastors, we reach communities across the country with consistent aid and spiritual encouragement.

As Ruth, Director of Ukrainian Projects, explains:

By working alongside local pastors, we are able to provide consistent aid and support to hurting communities across Ukraine.

A History of Serving Ukraine

During the Soviet era, we smuggled Bibles and New Testaments into Ukraine. After the collapse of the Iron Curtain, the country faced widespread poverty following independence from the Soviet Union.

In response, we established soup kitchens to support impoverished families, street children, and orphans who had been left without care.

In 2014, conflict in Eastern Donbas forced many families to flee their homes. Those without financial means—especially the elderly—had few options. As a result, we began delivering humanitarian aid directly into affected regions.

In 2022, the war escalated into a full-scale invasion. Millions were displaced, and entire communities were left without food, electricity, and basic necessities. Today, our teams continue working in some of the hardest-hit areas, providing consistent aid and support.

How We Provide Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine

Our Ukraine humanitarian aid work focuses on reaching those most affected by the war, especially in Eastern Donbas.

Many families have lost loved ones. Because of this, we support chaplain teams who serve on the frontlines, bringing the love of Christ to those left behind in destroyed towns and villages.

Our dear friend, Pastor Alex, leads a chaplain ministry that cares for wounded soldiers and their families. As a trained medic, he assists in evacuations and provides emergency care to many areas in the region. At the same time, he offers encouragement and spiritual support to those he serves.

Chaplin Ministry

Michael, a soldier stationed on the frontlines, spent days under constant bombardment while protecting his position. During one attack, he was severely injured and later lost part of his leg.

While recovering, he received visits from Pator Alex’s chaplain ministry team. Through this support, Michael found hope and began reading the Bible provided to him. Today, he continues to grow in faith and remains encouraged despite his circumstances.

Thousands of soldiers die every month, tens of thousands become disabled. We buy food, medicine, clothes, and hygiene products. With the expansion of the ministry due to increased casualties, we are constantly in desperate need of more supplies. —Pastor Alex

Supporting Families and Communities

Through our Ukraine humanitarian aid efforts, we also help provide food, supplies, and encouragement to families facing difficult circumstances.

Pastor Misha shares:

“We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our ministries to the disadvantaged—among Roma families, in prisons, orphans, and those often forgotten by the world.

You can’t imagine how much light and joy you bring them in these difficult times.

It’s more than just help.

It’s hope, warmth… a touch of God’s love.

Today was a particularly difficult day—explosions all over the city, thunder, and rocket debris. We hid in the basement almost all day. The electricity has been out for several days now—only on for an hour or two. We try to “catch” that time to get something done.

Yesterday, we ministered at the prison to life-sentenced prisoners. We bring them food, clothing, and support. It is especially hard for them: the cold, the lack of food, and the harsh conditions. But, you know, they don’t lose heart. They pray, sing, and cling to God!

Yesterday, two more repented. They were former dangerous criminals whose hearts were touched by God’s grace.

Moments like these make life and service worthwhile.

Thank you for your participation in the work of evangelism through your material assistance. You have become true hands of God’s love for many.”

Working with Local Pastors in Ukraine

We partner with pastors across Ukraine to support Christian families and strengthen local communities. Through these partnerships, aid is delivered consistently and responsibly.

  • In Lviv, outreach teams support Roma families, individuals struggling with addiction, and youth in correctional facilities. In addition, they provide education and humanitarian aid to families in need.
  • In Kyiv, a football outreach ministry offers young men structure, encouragement, and community. As a result, many stay engaged in positive activities and receive ongoing support.
  • In Nikopol, a local church provides daily meals to children and runs youth programs that bring families together.

In addition, our partners:

  • Deliver food to families and the elderly
  • Transport individuals to safety during air raids
  • Provide heating fuel, generators, and cooking equipment
  • Offer both practical and spiritual care
